Short, Mr. and Mrs. Frank (Golden - 30
January 1957)
Frank Shorts observe their Golden Wedding
- Triple celebration in Washburn -
Mr. and Mrs. Frank Short celebrated their
golden wedding anniversary at their home Saturday evening, January
26. Their daughter, Mrs. Louie Matousek, and her husband, and
their sons, Roger and Kenneth, and their wives, planned a small
party in their honor.
A 6:30 dinner was prepared and served by
the children. Those attending were: Mr. and Mrs. Louie Matousek;
Mr. and Mrs. Roger Short, daughter Dawn, and son Jeffrey, and Mr.
and Mrs. Clifford Schmear and daughter, Gena, all of West Allis;
Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Short and sons, Kenny and Keith, and Mrs.
Verna Payne, Neillsville; and Mr. and Mrs. Peter Hereid, Alma
Center.
Other evening guests were: Mr. and Mrs.
James Tibbett and son, Rockford, Ill.; Mr. and Mrs. George Holub,
Alma Center; Beverly Matousek and Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Short.
The couple was presented with a corsage
of yellow rosebuds with gold for the bride, and a white carnation
with gold for the groom and a bouquet of yellow roses from their
son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Louie Matousek. They
were presented with a wedding cake by their daughter, and another
cake by their son, Kenneth, and his family and Mr. and Mrs. Robert
Mortenson. The latter cake was baked and decorated by Mrs.
Mortenson. They also were presented with gifts of money from their
children and other guests. A lunch was served after an
evening of visiting and taking photos.
Frank Short, son of Mr. and Mrs. James
Short, and Dessa Payne, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. R. C. Payne, both
of Shortville vicinity, were united in marriage at the home of his
parents, the same farm where the couple now resides, on January 30,
1907. Rev. D. H. Rohrabaugh of the Neillsville and Shortville
Presbyterian churches officiated. They were attended by her
sister, Belle (now Mrs. Peter Hereid of Alma Center), and Ed Short,
cousin of the groom, of Neillsville. They lived for a while
with his parents then moved to Rochester, Minn., where he was
employed. They spent about nine years in Rochester, Baraboo
and Merrimac then returned to this vicinity, purchasing the family
farm.
The couple is the parents of two
daughters and two sons: Mrs. Raynor (Marie) Vaughn, Washington, D.
C.; Mrs. Louie (Helen) Matousek, West Allis; Kenneth, Neillsville;
and Roger, West Allis. They also have six grandchildren and
one great-grandchild. They all were in attendance with the
exception of Mrs. Vaughn, who was unable to attend at this time as
the couple is planning a celebration later in the year when more of
their relatives can attend as the weather at this time of year is
too uncertain to plan a big affair.
Mr. Short was born to James and Martha
Short, December 11, 1884, on the farm where they now reside and was
educated in the Shortville School.
Mrs. Short was born September 6, 1885, to
Mr. and Mrs. R. C. Payne near Sylvan, Richland County, and moved to
Shortville and Cannonville vicinities with her parents when a small
child. She was educated at Shortville, Cannonville and Gays
Mills schools.
The occasion was a double celebration, as January 30, 1957, is also the 23rd wedding anniversary of the couple’s son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Louie Matousek, who were married on her parents’ 27th wedding anniversary. The Matousek’s have a son, Duane, who was 19 years old on January 30, 1957. He is serving in the army in Korea, and also was unable to attend.
