Scherer, George, Sr. (1883 –2 March 1957) 
 

George Scherer, Sr., 74, retired farmer of Greenwood, died Saturday morning at the home of his son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. George Scherer, Jr.  He came here from Loyal, where he lived since being hospitalized in May, with his son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Bud Bremer. 
 

Mr. Scherer was born in Germany in 1883.  He was married in 1907 to Annie Ducey at Hollandale. She died in 1948.  Mr. and Mrs. Scherer came with their family to Greenwood in 1915 and settled on a farm four and one-half miles south of here.   
 

He is survived by two sons and two daughters: Francis of Spencer, George, Jr. of Greenwood, Mrs. Leonard (Mary) Denk of Loyal, and Mrs. E. A. ‘Bud’ (Cecilia) Bremer of Loyal; 13 grandchildren, a brother, Matt of Chicago; and a sister, Mrs. Albert (Margaret) Larson of Silvers, Ill. 
 

Funeral services were held Wednesday from St. Mary’s Catholic Church at Greenwood.  The Rev. Edward Hartung officiated.  Burial was made in St. Mary’s Cemetery.
