Clark, Sibyl (10 February 1874 - 15 March
1957)
Mrs. Homer Caswell Clark, born Sibyl A.
Wells February 10, 1874, and a life long resident of Clark County,
passed away peacefully in her sleep on March 15, 1957. She
was the third daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Philip Wells, pioneers of
this county. They were engaged in the hardware business in
Neillsville for many years. Mrs. Wells was a direct
descendant of Edward Spaulding, one of the founders of the
Massachusetts Colony of 1260 (1620?).
Mrs. Clark grew to womanhood in
Neillsville, and was a graduate of the Neillsville High School,
class of 1893.
On July 19, 1899, she was married in her
parent’s home in Neillsville (now the residence of Mrs.
Vivian Seltrecht on Hewett Street) to Mr. Homer C. Clark, prominent
Neillsville attorney. He lost his life when thirty-nine years
of age in an auto accident. Previous to the time he entered
the law school at Madison, Wis., he made his home with his family
in Damariscotta Mills, Me., where he was graduated from the
Newcastle Academy in 1893. Later he became prominent in
Masonic circles in the State of Wisconsin.
After Mr. Clark’s death, Mrs. Clark
spent much time in the city of Milwaukee, where she became a member
and worker in the First Church of Christ Scientist.
She was preceded in death by her parents,
her husband and two sisters, Emma Jane Wells, who lost her live at
five years of age in an accident, and Bertie A. Wells (Mrs. William
J. Marsh).
Mrs. Clark is survived by her niece, Mrs. Herman E. North, and by Mr. and Mrs. North’s two daughters and their six children.
