Etta, Bertha  (17 NOV 1869-11 FEB 1947)

Mrs. Thomas R. Etta, 77, a resident of Loyal for most of her life, died at the home of her daughter, Miss Eva Etta, in Marshfield at 11 o’clock on Friday evening, Jan. 17. A complication of ailments caused her death.

Mrs. Etta, the former Bertha Stange, daughter of the late Charles and Minnie Stange, was born in Iron Ridge, Dodge county, on Nov. 17, 1869. She came to Loyal when a child, and received her education here. She was married to Thomas R. Etta at Greenwood on Oct. 14, 1888.

Following their marriage, they lived ai Kewaskum for several years but returned to make Loyal their permanent home, until Mr. Etta’s death on May 27, 1941. Mrs. Etta’s spent the remainder of her life here, with the exception of the winter months, which she spent with her daughters in Marshfield.

Surviving are a son, Clarence Etta, in Minneapolis, two daughters, Mrs. Celia Woodkey and Miss Eva Etta, both of Marshfield, and three brothers, Herman and Louis Stange of Loyal and Otto Stange of Willard.

A son, Irvin, died in 1918, and another son, Arthur, in 1939. A brother Charles and three sisters, Anna, Fredericka and Ernistine, also preceded her in death.

Mrs. Etta was a member of the Methodist church, the American Legion Auxiliary, the Order of Eastern Star, the Royal Neighbors of America and the Birthday Circle.

Funeral services were held in the Methodist church at 2 p.m. Monday, Jan. 20, the body having been taken there from the Stabnow funeral home in Greenwood.

Services were conducted by the Rev. Lee Holmes. The hymns "Beyond the Sunset" and "Safe in the Arms of Jesus," were sung by Mrs. G. W. Nelson and Mrs. Ray Prior with Mrs. Roy Pengelly as accompanist. The flowers were carried by Mrs. Roy Hales, Mrs. Arthur Darton, Mrs. Dan Castner, Mrs. R. Giese, Mrs. Hal Voight, Mrs. James Roder, Mrs. Henry Boe, and Mrs. William Trindal. The pallbearers were Roy Pengelly, Roy Hales, Ray Prior, Herbert White, Jim Roder, and John Weyer. Mrs. Herbert White and Mrs. V. O. Kauffman ushered at the church.

Relatives from away who attended the services were Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Etta, Mrs. Soderman and Mrs. Osnick of Minneapolis; Miss Eva Etta, Mrs. Celia Woodkey and Mr. and Mrs. Norman Woodkey and children, Gerald, Virginoa and Jean Woodkeu, of Marshfield; Oscar Keorble of Kewaskum; Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Etta of Washburn; Mr. and Mrs. Fred Tolleth of Wisconsin Dells; Mr. and Mrs. Carl Kelner, Mr. and Mrs. Dale Stabnow and Oscar Etta of Eau Claire; Mr. and Mrs. Harold Stabnow ands Mrs. Bertha Pickruhn of Greenwood; Otto Stange of Willard, and Mrs. Schofield and family of Thorp.

In the death of Mrs. Etta, our community mourns the loss of another early settler, one with high ideals, esteemed and loved by all who knew her, and The Tribune joins others in the village in extending sympathy to the survivors.
