Hannan, Peter (17 MAR 1865-14APR 1947)

 

Peter J. Hannan, 82, a well-known farmer of Clark county, died at his home in this village on Monday evening, Apr. 14, at 5:35, the result of a heart attack suffered a week earlier.

 

He was born in Rubicon, Dodge county on Mar. 17, 1865, the son of the late Charles and Sarah Hannan. He received his education in the Rubicon schools. On Oct. 21, 1896, he was united in marriage to Katherine Kiley of Hartford. Mr. and Mrs. Hannan celebrated their 50th wedding last October.

 

His wife and four children survive him. Surviving children are Mrs. Edward Bertz of Loyal, Ray in the town of York, Wilbert of Waukesha, and Mrs. Alois (Eleanor) Stange of Athens. There are 19 grandchildren. Five sisters and two brothers preceded him in death

 

The first years of his married life were spent on a farm in Dodge county. In October, 1902, he and his wife and family moved onto a farm in the town of Loyal. After 20 years of successful operation, he sold this farm and bought another in the town of York, on county trunk K, where at the present time Ray and his family are living. On Apr. 1, 1944, Mr. and Mrs. Hannan bought a home in the village of Loyal, residing here since.

 

He served as a school clerk for the Lyon school for many years, also a member of the board of directors for the North Star cheese factory.

 

He was a loving, a kind father and grandfather. Relatives, friends and acquaintances will miss his cheery greetings, his quick wit and humor.

 

A solemn requiem high mass was read at 9:30 last Thursday morning at St. Anthony’s Catholic church, the Rev. Fr. Aloys Zinthefer officiating, with Rev. Thomas of Athens as deacon and Rev. B. Henry of Spencer as sub-deacon. Interment was made in St. Anthony’s cemetery.

 

Honorary pallbearers were: C. B. Esselman, Fred Stutte, Bonie Wehe, Herman Stange, John Schmidt and Albert Davel. The active pallbearers were Donald Stange, James Hannan, Edward Bertz, Jr., Jack Bertz, Robert Bertz and David Bertz. Those in charge of flowers were his granddaughters, Genevieve, Constance and Carole Bertz, Marcelene, amd Dorothy Hannan and Kathleen Stange.

 

Those from away who attended the funeral were: Mr. and Mrs. Alfred Haas of St Paul, Mr. and Mrs. John Kelly of Rubicon, Lawrence Kelly of Mayville, Mrs. Evelyn Kellenbenz of Green Bay, Louie Esselman and Mr. and Mrs. Alois Stange and family of Athens, Mrs. Robert Strathman of Colby, Mr. and Mrs. Ewald Thiede of Granton, Mr. and Mrs. Alex Poziombka and Marcelene Hannan of Neillsville, Wilbert Hannan of Waukesha, John Bertz of De Pere, Edward Bertz Jr. of Milwaukee, and Carole Bertz of Merrill.

 

The Tribune extends to the bereaved its sympathy in the loss of a beloved relative.
