Laskowski, Lacey J. (31 January 1984 - 28 January 2010)

Lacey J. Laskowski, 25, of Wisconsin Rapids died Thursday afternoon, Jan. 28, 2010, at University Hospitals in Madison after a courageous battle with cancer.  She was blanketed with prayers as she was lifted to Heaven.  Her family was close by her side to help her start a new adventure in a more peaceful world.

Lacey was born Jan. 31, 1984, in Wisconsin Rapids to Michael and Doris (Jacoby) Laskowski.

Lacey is loved by so many and she loved them back just as much. She gifted many with her homemade quilts and she would cook great meals for as many friends and family as possible.  Before moving back to Wisconsin Rapids, she lived in Oshkosh, working there as a bank teller and bartending at Casey’s Bar and having many friends in the community.

Lacey was an avid pool player and personally knew many of the professional players as she traveled around the United States for her job at Jacoby Custom Cue.  She could, as she would say, "Kick Butt," bouncing around the pool table.

Lacey’s love of family was endless. She ran around and played with her little cousins, had a great respect for the aunts and uncles in her life and a greater respect for her grandparents.  She loved her goddaughter, Carley. She was her girl.  Her favorite times were spent in Hatfield with her family.

Lacey’s move back to Wisconsin Rapids brought true gleam to her eyes when she joined the coaching staff at Lincoln High School for the cheer and stunt team.  Her time as a cheerleader in high school and college were the proudest times in her life. She truly thrived in her cheerleader family. Even in illness she was always thinking about how her girls were doing in the numerous competitions they performed in.  She was so proud when the girls presented her with the cheer stick from one of their camps.  She was given the opportunity to travel to Australia to coach a cheerleading team that she performed with at a championship soccer game. It was one of the highlights of her life.

Lacey is survived by her mom and dad, Doris and Mike Laskowski of Wisconsin Rapids; two sisters, Eleasha Laskowski of Oshkosh and Katie (Jordan) O’Shasky of La Crosse; one brother, Jacob Laskowski of Wisconsin Rapids; paternal grandparents, Edwin and Patricia Laskowski of Wisconsin Rapids; maternal grandfather, Franklin "Hunce" Jacoby of Wisconsin Rapids; her boyfriend, Ryan Klein of Wisconsin Rapids; and many aunts, uncles, cousins, other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her paternal grandmother, Virginia Jacoby; special grandparents, Bill and Doris Arnold; and cousins, Shane Jacoby and Jamie Smolarek.

Lacey’s spirit, energy and heart will be greatly missed. The friendships she cherished during her life will not be forgotten.

The family greatly appreciates the community for the unending support and prayers given to Lacey; they gave everyone strength and courage during her battle.

A Mass of Christian Burial was held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 2, at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, Wisconsin Rapids.  Father Joseph Hirsch officiated.  Visitation was held at Taylor, Vollert and Jennings Funeral Home in Wisconsin Rapids from 3 p.m. to 9 p.m. Monday, Feb. 1, and at the church Tuesday from 10 a.m. until time of services.

Memorial may be designated to the Lacey Laskowski Benefit Fund at WoodTrust Bank.
