It’s off to state this weekend for the Loyal one-act play cast, who survived cuts at the district and sectional levels to quality for the state event. Participating will be Kevin Voit, Sheryl Gregory, Mrs. Michelle Gorke, director, Tim Bieneck, Patti Schmitz, student director, Sabrina Thorson and Tom Bieneck.

The play, “An Inspector Answers” will be performed at 1 p.m. on the Sentry Theatre stage, Stevens Point. The rating system is different this year from that of previous years: all plays at the state event will receive a finalist plaque and the most deserving lays will receive and “All-State Award.” In addition, two new awards will be made: awards of special merit for outstanding acting or directing.

Murks, Faith (27 Oct 1979)

Faith Murks, daughter of Bernetta Murks and Billy Murks, Colby, and Terry L. Olson, 135 South Mains Street, Greenwood, were married Saturday, October 27, 1979. The Gospel Tabernacle Withee was the scene of the 2 p.m. wedding, at which Pastor Dan Venske officiated. The traditional wedding song was sung by Mrs. Venske.

Given in marriage by her father, the bride was seen in a white satin gown with lace yoke and train. She wore a flowered headpiece with seeds and rhinestones, with a fingertip veil She carried a bouquets of red roses with white flowers.

Serving as maid of honor was Margie Kopp, Chicago. Bridesmaid duties were performed by Vicki Kremsydier, Abbotsford, Cheryl Ackerman, Milwaukee, and Sue Lavan, Stetsonville. They were attired in mint green crepe gowns with dark green velvet capes edged with tur..? They carried long stemmed white roses and wore roses on ..? in their hair.

Performing the duties of best man was Steve Speich, Greenwood. Groomsmen were Gary Olson, Greenwood, Billy Murks, Colby, and Mike Olson, Greenwood. Ushers were Billy Kara, Abbotsford and Greg Langreck, Greenwood.

Ring bearer was Peter Solbery, Elk Mound, and flower girl was Lisa Cambell, Withee.

Following the ceremony there was a wedding supper at the Holy Rosary Church, Owen, and a wedding reception and dance were held at Curtiss, Wisconsin.

After a wedding trip to Chicago they will reside at Maplewood Terrace, Abbotsford.

The bride was a 1977 graduate of Colby High School, and she is employed at Billy Jacks Place, Colby. The groom was a 1976 graduate from Greenwood High School and a 1978 graduate of Eau Claire Tech as a diesel mechanic.

Verhulst, Arlene (13 Oct 1979)

Arlene Verhulst, Onalaska and Michael Harris, Onalaska, were married at 2 p.m., Saturday, October 13, 1979 at the Church of Christ, Onalaska. Officiating was Reverend Harold Verhulst and Beth Becker was the soloist, accompanied by Linda Medinger on the organ.

The bride, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Lyle Verhulst of Loyal, was given in marriage by her father to the son of Mr. and Mrs. Alfred Harris, Beloit.

Attending the bride as matron of honor was Judi Hoeppner of Watertown. Bridesmaids were Mrs. Linda Geiger of Oshkosh, Mrs. Janet Fulkerson of La Cross, Miss Kathy Farley of La Cross, and junior bridesmaid was Miss Janice Verhulst of Loyal.

Attending the groom as best man was John Bechly of La Crosse. Groomsmen were Bud West, Jay Fulkerson and Tom Clark.

Performing ushering duties were David Smith and Billy Bjorkman.

A reception, dinner and dance were held at Syl’s Place, Barre Milles.

The new Mrs. Harris is a graduate of Loyal High School and of the UW-La Crosse. She is employed as a counselor at Coulee Youth Centers, La Crosse.

Mr. Harris is a graduate of Beloit High School and the University of Wisconsin, La Crosse, and is employed at Empire Silk Screen.

The couple will be at home in Onalaska.

Karen is the deli manager at Quillins Food House of La Cross. Jim, a graduate of Viterbo College, is a chemical technical with Norplex, a division of U.O.P. in La Crosse.

The wedding will be in St. Paul’s Catholic Church in Plainfield on Saturday, April 16, 1980.

Leisinger, Irene (20 Nov 1912 – Nov 1979)

Funeral services for Mrs. Irene Leisinger, 67, Unity, were held in the Trinity Lutheran Church, Unity, on Saturday, November 24 at 1:30 p.m. Officiating was Reverend Elton Moore and interment was in the Town of Brighton Cemetery.

Irene Riske was born to Ernest and Leona Riske on November 20, 1912 in the Town of Sherman, Clark County.

She married Robert Leisinger on October 30, 1935 at the Veefkind Church in the Town of Sherman.

They farmed in the Town of Hull, Marathon County.

Surviving is her husband.

Pallbearers were Elmer Riegel, Joe Brewert, Harry Mairein, Siegrist Krasselt, Lester Safemaster and Forest Johnson.

Rux-Lulloff Funeral Home, Colby, was in charge of arrangements.

Obit: Shain, Margie J. – Killed in Vehicle Accident (23 Nov 1979)

A car-pickup truck accident at Globe Friday night claimed the life of Mrs. Margie J. Shain, an employee at the Memorial Hospital in Neillsville, was on her way home at the time of the accident. She was traveling west on County Trunk H.

Her pickup truck was struck by a car driven by LaVern Dahlby, 54, of Loyal. The impact put the truck into the northwest ditch, against a guy wire. She was thrown from the vehicle and pronounced dead on arrival at Memorial Hospital in Neillsville, having received crushing injuries to the chest.

Dahlby was taken to Memorial Hospital suffering from cuts on the head and suffered possible chest injuries.

The accident occurred about 9:05 p.m. at the intersection of County Trunks H-O-G.

Mrs. Margie Shain, 62, of Route 1, Willard, was dead on arrival at 9:25 p.m. Friday, November 23, 1979 at Memorial Hospital from injuries suffered in a two-car accident at Globe Corners.

Funeral services were conducted on Tuesday, December 4 at 10:30 a.m. at Gesche Funeral Home, Neillsville. Officiating was reverend Wally Anderson, and interment was at 2 p.m. Wednesday, December 5 at Arlington Memorial Gardens at Mount Healthy, Ohio.

Margie J. Cherry was born in Celina, Tennessee on May 9, 1917 and received her education there.

She worked in Cincinnati for many years and was married to Arvel A. Shain there. He died in 1964. In 1969 she came to Clark County, residing in the Willard area.

Surviving are three daughters, Mrs. John (Harriet) Keller and Mrs. Joseph (Barbara) Petkovsek, both of Willard, and Mrs. Ronald (Becky) Henn of Plymouth, Michigan; two sons, Lyle Sparks of Ross, Ohio and Mark E. Shain of Willard; a sister, Mrs. John (Evelyn) Knopman of Sterling Heights, Michigan; and seven grandchildren.

Gesche Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

William (Bill) Stone of Route 2 Greenwood has opened a new business which will be known as Stoney Welding, located three miles northwest of Greenwood on MM.

Bill is 34 years old and has lived in Waukegan, Illinois for the poast 25 years.

His experience consists of ten years as a parts man and machinist at F & M. Auto Parts, Waukegan, one year as welder at HY Dynamics, Lake Bluff, Illinois, and heavy construction equipment.

Bill also spent six and a half years as welder at International Harvester at Libertyville, Illinois.

He spent three years at Lake County College, Grays Lake, Illinois, for certified welder. He has worked with a variety of equipment, such as mig, tig, gas, arc, submerged welding, thermos plastics and mini arc.

He has also worked on car motors and setting up race cars.

His new business will feature 24-hour emergency service.

During his spare time he like to wwim, fish, hunt and trap.

Schmidt, Mr./Mrs. Bernard (25th – 16 Nov 1979)

Mr. and Mrs. Bernard Schmidt, Route 2, Loyal, celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary on November 17, 1979 at the 8 p.m. Mass at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church, Loyal. A dance, reception and lunch were held from 9 – 1 at the Loyal American Legion Club.

Bernard Schmidt and Betty Jordan were married on Tuesday, November 16, 1954 at 10:30 a.m. at Holy Family Catholic Church in Willard.

Betty attended Willard State Grade School and Greenwood Nigh School. She is a housewife and a C.C.D. teacher on Saturdays at St. Anthony’s Church. She is a member of Starlite Homemakers, the American Legion Auxiliary, St. Anthony’s Catholic Church and St. Anthony’s Altar Society.

Bernard attended Pleasant View School and is employed in farming. He is also a part time carpenter. He is a member of the Loyal American Legion, the Knights of Columbus and St. Anthony’s Catholic Church and its men’s club. He enjoys bowling, fishing and playing cards.

The Schmidt’s have 13 children; Mrs. Charles (Brenda) Rueth of Route 1, Loyal, Mrs. Randy (Barbara) Horn of Greenwood, Mrs. Jim (Bernadette) Pachmak of New Ulm, Germany, who came all the say just for this special event, Bonnie of Neillsville and Beverly, Betty Jean, Bernice, Bruce, Becky, Brian, Bradley, Bridgett and Benjamin at home.

The Schmidt’s also have five grandchildren.

Original attendants at their wedding were Mr. and Mrs. Ed (Theresa Krapf) Zorman, Mrs. Joe (Lorraine Jordan) Kadler, Mrs. Phyllis (Seliskar) Jurceka, Mrs. Mrs. Marie (Andrele) Thyen, Rudy Joran, Robert Schmidt and George Lauer.

Special guests attending were Mr. and Mrs. Joe Kadler of St. Paul, Minnesota, Mrs. Phyllis Jurceka, Bartlett, Illinois, Mr. and Mrs. William Jordan, Kendall, Wisconsin, and Mr. and Mrs. Ludwig Jordan of Willard.
