Mail Service (1957)
Rural residents served by the Neillsville
post office were finding their mail in the box nearly two hours
earlier, starting Monday.
The change in schedule results from a
faster "get-away" from the post office by rural carriers, who now
leave at 9 o’clock. They formerly waited for the star
route in the morning, and that got them out on the routes at
10:50.
However, this was changed on
recommendation of a post office department committee which has been
set up to study delays of mail delivery and eliminates them,
according to Acting Postmaster Romuald Schmidt.
The Committee found that the amount of mail coming in on the morning star route was not of sufficient volume to warrant holding deliveries for it.
