Athletic Director of Chippewa Falls McDonald and four time state champion
basketball coach, Marty Crowe, will be the guest speaker at the Loyal High
School Athletic Banquet, Saturday, May 5, 1979. Mr. Crowe has been a teacher and
coach (football, basketball, baseball) for close to 40 years. While coaching
basketball at Eau Claire his teams won two state championships. When he coach in
Marinette and Austin, Minnesota his teams also won a state championship. Crowe
is due to take the reins of the McDonald Cager squad next season.
Respective coaches from Loyal High School will also briefly address the
audience, giving highlights of the year.
Awards for Most Valuable Boy and Girl Athletes will be presented.

Boys’ State to be held June 16 – 23, 1979 at Ripon College.
The Badger Girl Representative is Cheryl Schuette, daughter of Mr. and Mrs.
Eldred Schuette. Fusun Algan, daughter of Dr. and Mrs. A. M. Algan, was the
tentative choice for Badger Girl, but she will be unable to attend. The Badger
Girl’s State is held June 10 - 16, 1979 at UW-Madison.
The alternate for Badger Boys’ State is David Selz, son of Mr. and Mrs. Edwin
Selz. Alternate Badger Girls is Sharon Pachal, daughter of Mrs. Esther Pachal.

Richard – Receives Divinity Degree (May 1979)

Richard Noeldner, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Erwin Noeldner of Route 1, Loyal,
Wisconsin, will be one of 59 students receiving degrees in three areas of
Wartburg Theological Seminary at an ecumenical service on May 13, 1979.
A 1971 graduate of Dana College, Blaire, Nebraska, Richard has completed four
years of study at Wartburg, including an internship at Teller Lutheran Church,
Teller, Alaska. Richard has been assigned to serve in the N.W. Pacific District
of the American Lutheran Church.
Richard’s wife Delores is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Wilmer Hauge, Goodell,
Iowa.
Wartburg will award 10 special awards at the ceremony to celebrate Wartburg’s
125th anniversary.

Trinity Lutheran Church, Greenwood, was the setting of the 2 p.m. wedding on
Saturday, April 28, 1979 of Jeanne Speich and Dennis Steffen.
Parents of the couple are Mr. and Mrs. Ken Speich and Mr. and Mrs. Art Steffen.
Reverend Douglas Groenewold officiated at the ceremony and Jim Antrim and Lynn
Anderson provided musical selections.
Accompanied to the alter by her father, the bride was seen in an A-line lace
gown.
Ann Kosik of Greenwood served as maid of honor. Tracy Behrens was the
bridesmaid.
They wore floral A-ling gowns.
Karl Steiglitz served the groom as best man. Pat Herrick was the groomsman.
Dan Smercice (?) and Jim Kosik performed ushering duties.
Wedding day events included a reception and dance at the Greenwood Legion Hall.
The new Mrs. Steffen attended Greenwood High School. Mr. Steffen attended
Greenwood High School and is employed by Stratwood Homes.
Following a wedding trip through the eastern states, the couple will be at home
in Greenwood.

On Saturday, April 21, 1979 at 1:30 p.m., Miss Gail A. Borchardt, 202 S. 6th
Street, Abbotsford, became the bride of Allen K. Jicinsky, 200 S. LaSalle
Street, Spencer. The wedding took place at Christ Lutheran Church, 122 N. 2nd
Street, Abbotsford, and Rev. Kenneth Loehrke officiated. Music was provided by
Cindy and Chris Schafer. Mrs. Norm Kommer played the processional and
recessional music.
Given in marriage by her father, the bride was seen in a flared A-line gown of
white organza with cluny lace detailing the ruffled yoke of high collared
neckline, the cuffs of the long bishop sleeves and the flounce encircling the
hem and chapel length train. Pearl ornamented appliques detailed the front at
both sides. Her fingertip length veil was of illusion, bordered with appliques
and fell from an applique trimmed bandeau headpiece.
She carried a cascade of coral and ivory roses, peach gardenia and daisies with
rosebuds on white satin streamers.
Serving as maid of honor was Miss Peggy Telschow, Plymouth, Wisconsin, and
bridesmaids were Miss Darla Jicinsky, Spencer, Miss Jean Wesle, Stetsonville and
Miss Gerry Syring, Edgar.
They were attired in floor length gowns in oriental silesta knit print over
taffeta in apricot. The skirts were pleated from the modified waistlines. They
had a bateau neckline and full blouse with cape sleeves. They carried nosegays
of coral roses and carnations with streamers.
The best man for the ceremony was Jeff Brock, Loyal, and the groomsmen were Ed
T. Borchardt, Abbotsford, Terry Jicinsky, Spencer, and Mike Greenwald, Spencer.
Ushering duties were performed by Larry Borchardt, Abbotsford, and Christ
Jicinsky, Spencer.
A reception and dance were held at the Loyal Legion Hall.
The bride is a 1974 graduate of Stratford High School and North Central
Technical Institute, in 1976. She is employed as a secretary auditor at the
Abbotsford State Bank. The groom is employed at Anderson’s Sawmill.
Following a wedding trip to Minneapolis, the couple will reside at 200 S.
LaSalle Street, Spencer.

A special banquet was held at Bali Hi Supper Club on May 3, 1979 to honor
Greenwood High School retirees. Ruth Nelson was one of those retirees.
Ruth Nelson was born and attended school at Duluth, Minnesota. She received her
B.S. and M.S. degrees from at the University of Wisconsin, Stout, Menomonie.
Ruth has a total of 24 years teaching experiences, with 12 years in the home
economics department of the Greenwood High School.
Ruth daughters Geri Nelson and Carol Blair were unable to attend the banquet,
but her son and daughter-in-law, James and Carla Nelson, came for dinner.
Ruth’s hobbies include golf and traveling, and she will be living at Portland,
Oregon, where she and her sister have built a house, and where she will be
spoiling her grandson, Benjamin Scot Blau.
