Winnebago Children (1957)
Christmas shopping by 44 children from
the Winnebago Children’s Home is one of the gala events of
the school year. The children completed their shopping for
the season on Tuesday. Each child used his own allowance
money to purchase gifts for parents and other loved ones.
Every child at the Winnebago home receives a monthly allowance for
spending, and as the holiday season approaches a portion of each
allowance is held back to guarantee to each child an adequate
allowance for Christmas gifts.
Faculty members assist the Indian children in wrapping and preparing the gifts to be taken or mailed home. In this way every child has an experience of giving, in addition to the "White Christmas" program where the handiwork of each child is sent to mission fields.
