Davel, Pfc. Kenneth (? - ?
1957)
Funeral services were held Monday morning
from St. Anthony’s Catholic Church here for Pfc. Kenneth
Davel, son of Mr. and Mrs. Bernard Davel, who died while in service
in Germany. The Rev. Norbert King officiated and burial was
made in the parish cemetery.
Military rites were discharged by the
local American Legion post, commanded by Lloyd Zimmerman.
Oscar Fricke was in charge of the firing squad, and Ed Dobbe, post
chaplain, presented the flag.
Pallbearers were: Clarence Rogstad, Paul
Gloudeman, Allan Langfeldt, Vincent Davel, Robert Paulson, and
Alfred Hill, Jr.
Sgt. William L. Johnson, a buddy of Pfc.
Davel, escorted the body here from Germany.
Two rosaries were held Sunday in the
Myhre Funeral Home: one at 2:30 p.m. by the Catholic Knights and a
general rosary in the evening.
The army is still investigating the
death, about which nothing is known here other than that Pfc.
Davel’s body was found in the Kinzig River, near Gelhausen,
after he had been missing for six weeks.
Relatives from away who attended the services were: Mr. and Mrs. Allan Wehrman, Waukegan, Ill.; Mrs. Henry De Young, Mrs. Marie Paulson and son Robert, and Mrs. Victor Diestler, New London; Mr. and Mrs. Willard Wied, Clintonville; Mr. and Mrs. George Beilile, Jr., Hortonville; Mr. and Mrs. Alex Davel and Vincent and Mrs. Margaret Fiegal, Milwaukee; and Mrs. Oscar Tritten and Mrs. Donald Schuster, Omro.
