Gehrt, Everett Frank (5 April 1916 - 22
February 2010)
Everett F. Gehrt, 93, of Loyal died at
the Clark County Health Care Center in Owen Monday, Feb. 22,
2010.
Everett Frank Gehrt was born April 5,
1916, in the Town of Levis, Clark County, the son of Harry and
Marie (Baumel) Gehrt. He was raised on the family farm and
received his education in the Columbia area. Everett was united in
marriage to Jannette K. Buelow Nov. 18, 1942, at her parent’s
farm in the Town of York. They farmed in the Pine Valley area
until 1948 and then bought a farm south of Loyal. They
retired from farming in 1983, sold the farm and moved to
Loyal. His wife, Jannette, died April 15, 2002. Everett
continued to reside in Loyal until moving to the Clark County
Health Care Center Jan. 2, 2007.
He was an active member of the Loyal
United Methodist Church, where he served on the Trustee and Finance
committees, was Ad Council chairperson, taught Sunday school and
was a member of the church’s men’s group. Everett
also worked at the Loyal Recycling center, served as the sexton of
the Loyal Cemetery and was on the cemetery board for many
years.
He had many interests but loved spending
time with his grandchildren, woodworking, welding, farming, polka
music, traveling, playing cards, and he always enjoyed a good
joke.
Everett is survived by his son, Carl
Gehrt of Loyal; daughter-in-law, Cindy Gehrt of Loyal; two
granddaughters, Lena Gehrt of Marshfield and Megan (Lance) Hahn of
Loyal; one great-granddaughter, Mackenzie Hahn; and a
sister-in-law, Alice Gehrt of Wisconsin Rapids.
He was preceded in death by his parents;
his wife, Jannette; a daughter, Karen, in infancy; and two
brothers, Harlan and Walter Gehrt.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m.
Saturday, Feb. 27, 2010, at the Loyal United Methodist Church in
Loyal. Rev. Mike Herdt officiated, and burial followed in the Loyal
Cemetery. Pallbearers were Scott Hunt, Jesse Zvolena, Jerry
Noeldner, Tom Pagenkopf, Gordy Noeldner and Chuck
Butterbrodt. Visitation was held at the church Saturday from
10 a.m. until the time of services.
