Frank, Susan (1958)
Susan Frank, eldest daughter of Dr. and
Mrs. H. A. Frank of Neillsville, received the habit of the School
Sisters of Notre Dame and the name Sister Mary Ellen Francis, in
solemn investiture ceremonies at the Milwaukee motherhouse of the
order, July 1 and 2.
Sister, a graduate of St. Mary’s
grade school, Neillsville, and St. Mary’s academy, Prairie du
Chien, entered the candidature of the order last September.
Now, she will be among the 51 novices who
will spend a year learning the rudiments of the religious life and
preparing to take their first temporary vows of obedience,
chastity, and poverty. The novitiate is intended as a time of
preparation and probation.
These novices make up the last group to
be received in the 108-year old motherhouse at 1324 N. Milwaukee
Street, Milwaukee, and the first to occupy the new Notre Dame of
the Lake Training College for Sisters in Mequon. The
novitiate will be moved to its new quarters in August.
The western province of the School Sisters of Notre Dame conducts schools in Wisconsin, Illinois, Michigan, Indiana, Ohio, and Guam, in which about 26,750 children and young adults are under instruction. The administrative head quarters of the province also will be located at Mequon.
