Mr. and Mrs. Albert Miller and Mrs. Frank
Zank accompanied by Mrs. Claire Smale of West Union, Ia., were in
Mellen Tuesday to attend funeral services for Bernard Gehrmann, 78,
whose death occurred Saturday. Mr. Gehrmann was prominent for many
years in Wisconsin political and agriculture circles. In his
early life he lived on a farm in Pine Valley, near the present
Silver Crest School.
Mr. Gehrmann was born in Germany and came
to this country at the age of 13. In Chicago he worked in a
packing plant and attended night school to learn English. He
later became a printer. He came with his family to Clark
County in 1896.
In 1904, he was married here to Miss Mary
Miller, daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. John Miller of Pine
Valley, and a sister of Albert and Frank Miller of
Neillsville. They farmed here until 1915, when they moved to
Ashland County. Mrs. Gehrmann died in 1957.
Mr. Gehrmann had a long record of public service. He served as town assessor, town clerk and (rest was missing).
