Hurricane Ella (1958)
Louis Hoffman, writing to his parents,
Mr. and Mrs. Carl Hoffman of Neillsville, told of being caught in
the Atlantic by Hurricane Ella. Traveling between Virginia and
Boston, the U. S. S. Macon, to which Louis is assigned, was caught
in the full fury of the hurricane winds. "Folks," said Louis,
"if you think the wind blows back in Wisconsin, you should see what
it does in a hurricane. I hope I’ll never have to go
through one again."
