Wegner, Carl John (15 SEPT 1863-05 JUNE 1947)

Carl John Wegner, 83, died at 6:30 a.m. Thursday, June 5, at Neillsville hospital after an illness of five days following a stroke. Funeral services were held on Sunday afternoon, June 8, at the Georgas funeral home in Neillsville and the Immanuel Lutheran church at Globe, conducted by the Rev. Adolph Schumann, Pastor. Burial was made in the church cemetery beside his wife, who died on Feb. 9, 1923.

Pallbearers were Donald Kalsow, Marvin Westphal, Walter Johnson, Harold Lange, Victor Schlinkert and Earl Lichter.

Mr. Wegner, the son of John and Johanna Susa Wegner, was born on Sept. 15, 1863, in Germany. He grew to manhood there, and at the age of 23 he came to America, settling in Clark county, where he resided for 61 years. The first five years of his life were spent working on farms and in the winters working in logging camps.

On Oct. 20, 1891, he was married to Anna Lange, at Neillsville, the ceremony being performed by the Rev. Christian Doehler, pastor of St. John's Lutheran church. They located on the farm in Pine Valley which later became known as the Tim ler farm, and in 1902 they moved onto a farm near Globe. In 1944 Mr. Wegner accompanied his son and daughter-in-law to Loyal. where he resided until his death. He had long been a member of the Lutheran church at Globe.

Surviving, besides his son, are three daughters, Mrs. Robert (Elsie) Schlinkert, Mrs. Claude (Margaret) Westphal and Mrs. Gust (Minnie) Kalsow, all of Neillsville, and two brothers, Herman of Chippewa Falls and William of Neillsville, A daughter, Ruth, four brothers and two sisters preceded him in death.

Attending the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. Walter Wegner of Loyal.
