Smith, Virginia (14 JUNE 1947)

Miss Virginia Alice Smith, only daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. Vernon Smith of Loyal, became the bride of Edward R. Brown, son of Mr. and Mrs. Bert R. Brown of Loyal, on Saturday, June 14. The Rev. Fr. Aloys Zinthefer read the double ring service at a nuptial high mass at 8:30 a.m. in St. Anthony’s Catholic church.

The bride, given in marriage by her father, wore a white satin and ninon gown. The satin bodice buttoned down the back to a wasp waistline, emphasized with a Haring peplum. The deep net yoke was edged with a lace ruffle, the long sleeves came to points over the wrists, and the full ninon skirt, adorned with a bright medallion , swept into a court train. Her full length veil was caught to a tiara headdress. She carried a bouquet of red roses and white carnations and wore a gold cross and chain, a gift of the groom.

Miss Marilyn Bertz of Loyal, the maid of honor, wore a pink satin gown with a blue net overskirt, styled with a fitted bodice and elbow-length sleeves. Miss Zada Cain of Unity, bridesmaid, wore a blue taffeta gown with a blue net overskirt. Both carried bouquets of pink and white carnations, wore matching headdresses and shoulder-length veils and wore pearl necklaces, gifts of the bride.

Earl Boyer of Stevens Point was best man and Robert Bertz of Loyal was groomsman. David Bertz and Marcus Kreuser were ushers.

A wedding breakfast was served at the groom’s home following the ceremony, and a dinner and reception were given at the bride’s home to 50 guests. A three tiered wedding cake centered the bride’s table. The home was decorated with white, blue and pink streamers and white bells.

Both the bride and groom are graduates of the Loyal high school, the bride with the class of 1947 and the groom with the class of1940.

They spent a week vacationing in Wisconsin and are now at home on route two, where the groom is engaged in farming.

Out of town guests who attended the wedding included: Mrs. Arthur Bast, Mrs. John Sterman, Miss Beth Sterman, Lester Sterman and Mr. Frank Hegy, all of Hartford, Miss Jo Wieczorek of Stevens Point, Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Finup of Vesper, Mr. and Mrs. Ulysses Cain of Unity, Mr. and Mrs. John Jakobi and children of Neillsville, Mr. and Mrs. Norman Miller of Spencer, and Mr. and Mrs. John D. Wuethrich and Mr. and Mrs. Ewald Schwarze of Greenwood.

To the newlyweds, The Loyal Tribune extends its heartiest congratulations and best wishes for the future.
