Philpott, Donald R. (Arm Injury - 16
November 1958)
A local physician said here Monday that
he expects the arm of Donald R. Philpott, telephone construction
worker, will be returned to normal use; but that he will have to
undergo further surgery.
Philpott, who lives in Durand, suffered
the severe injury of his left arm when his car sideswiped the Black
River Bridge on Highway 10. The car apparently dropped into a
drainage catch basin as he passed the automobile of Warden Jack
Sneen of Stanley about 12:30 p.m. Saturday. The lurch
apparently threw the side of the car into the concrete upright of
the bridge. Philpott had his arm resting on the window
ledge.
Sneen saw the car sideswipe the bridge,
and when the driver did not stop, the warden pulled in front of
Philpott and stopped him about a mile further west on Highway
10.
"Take me to a doctor. I’m hurt,"
was Philpotts first comment as the warden approached his car.
Sneen said he saw the man’s jacket and trousers covered with
blood, and took him to Memorial Hospital.
Philpott later said he had intended to drive on to Eau Claire to have the wounded arm cared for. It is doubtful whether he (balance of this report was missing).
