Strebing, Mike (Hunting Experience -
1958)
Young Hunter Experience: "I
couldn’t make the darn thing move," said Mike Strebing,
12-year-old-son of Mr. and Mrs. Ray Strebing, as he told of walking
up on a large buck which was lying down in the Town of Washburn
Sunday afternoon. The buck, who had apparently been shot at,
realized it was safer to have a boy walk on him than to get up and
be shot at by hunters.
"So, I took a stick," said Mike, "and hit the deer over the head, which frightened him and he took off like a shot, although there were several hunters around him, not one got a shot." The buck was bedded down in tall grass and had to be walked on to be kicked out, which proves that a smart buck will usually lay low.
