Short, Frank (11 December 1884 - 16 November 1958)

Frank Short, 73, a longtime resident of this vicinity, died Sunday at 10:30 a.m. at St. Joseph’s Hospital, Marshfield.  Surgery was performed Saturday as a last resort.  He had been seriously ill for two weeks.

His wife stayed at the hospital and helped care for him continuously during his illness.  His daughter, Mrs. Louie (Helen) Matousek of Milwaukee, also stayed with him the last week or 10 days and assisted in his care.

He also leaves another daughter, Mrs. Marie Vaughn of Washington, D. C., and two sons, Kenneth of Neillsville, and Roger of Milwaukee.

Funeral services were to be held from the Georgas Funeral Home in Neillsville, Wednesday at 2 p.m.

Mr. Short was born December 11, 1884, in the Town of Washburn, on the farm where he resided most of his lifetime.  He received his education in the Shortville School and worked with his father on the farm.  On January 30, 1907, he was married to the former Dessa Payne.

Following their marriage, Mr. and Mrs. Short operated a feed mill at Merrimac for two years, and returned to Clark County after spending seven years in the southern part of the state, where they farmed.  The farm, which he purchased from his father’s estate, had been his home since.

He served the Town of Washburn as assessor for eight years.
