Mattson, Sofia (2 SEP 1874 - 11 OCT 1955)

 

Funeral services will be held at two o’clock Saturday afternoon, Oct. 15th from Bethany Lutheran Church, Owen, for Mrs. Abraham Mattson.  Rev. John Saarinen will officiate at the final rites, while burial will be made at Riverside Cemetery.  Her sons and sons-in-law will serve as pallbearers, while Mrs. E. Havelin, Mrs. Arthur Himes, Mrs. Carl Hill and Mrs. Dan Arola will be in charge of the floral offering.  Friends may now call at Hoeper and Kraut Funeral Home.

 

The deceased, nee Sofia Haavisto, was born Sept. 2, 1874, in Finland.  On Jan. 30, 1897, she was united in marriage to Abraham Mattson in a ceremony performed at Eveleth, Minn.  The couple have been pioneer residents of this community (Owen, Clark Co., Wis.), residing on a farm south of the city for many years.

 

For the past year she had been in poor health and succumbed to a lingering illness on Tuesday, Oct. 11, 1955 at Victory Memorial Hospital at Stanley.  She had attained the age of 81 years.

 

Surviving are her husband, two sons, Verne of Chicago and William, city; six daughters, Mrs. Elsie (Talvio, Minneapolis; Mrs. Neal (Elvina) Laine, and Mrs. Matt (Vi) Bombach, Owen; Mrs. William (Martha) Mundt, Butler, Wis.; Mrs. (Jennie) Havelin, Loyal, and Mrs. Richard (Thelma) Upjohn, Rib Lake.
