Olsen, Chester (1840 - 4 July
1912)
Colona has lost one of its oldest
residents, in the person of Chester Olsen who passed away at the
county hospital, Montrose, on Thursday last, at the advanced age of
72.
Born in Norway, he came to the United
States when but a child and spent the larger portion of his life in
Wisconsin. From such meager details as come to hand, we have
reason to believe that our old friend was at one time prominently
identified with the lumber business at several points in Wisconsin,
including Stevens Point, La Crosse, Neillsville, etc., and all in
Clark county of that state. He came to these parts some 20
years ago and has occupied a cabin in which he lived alone.
Though very reticent as to his past, several of his acquaintances
have expressed their opinion of his having relatives in Wisconsin,
who doubtless would be gratified to know of his last moments being
spent in the local hospital, attended by medical skill and
care.
On hearing of the death the Rev. Cowely made references to his passing and expressed the thought uppermost in his mind - "his form and somewhat eccentric conversation will be missed for many days to come." - The Montrose, Colorado, Enterprise
