Grass, Edna H. (25 May 1921 - 26 March
2010)
Edna H. Grass, age 88, of Wausau,
formerly of Granton, died Friday, March 26, 2010, surrounded by her
family at the Mount View Care Center in Wausau.
Edna was born May 25, 1921, the daughter
of Herman and Helen (Sternitzky) Hasz in the Town of Lynn. She was
baptized May 27, 1921, confirmed May 26, 1921* (1941), and united
in marriage to Paul Grass June 28, 1942, all at the Zion
Evangelical Lutheran Church in Granton. (*1921 has to be a
typo, so I supposed 1941).
She graduated from Granton High School
May 31, 1939, and later graduated from County Normal Teachers
College in Wisconsin Rapids. Edna taught for 25 years.
Her first teaching job was in Neillsville, where she taught grades
one to eight. Edna taught part time while raising her three
children in Racine. From 1960 to 1970 she taught full time as
a first and second grade teacher at Bethany Lutheran School in
Milwaukee. Edna also taught first grade in Manistee, MI,
Rockford, and Rochelle, IL.
Edna loved her Lord and was a kind,
considerate, loving and compassionate person. She loved to
sew, bake, cook and take care of her grandkids.
She was a member of the Immanuel Lutheran
Church in Marshfield and later attended Trinity Lutheran Church in
Wausau.
Edna is survived by her three children,
John (Lynn) Grass of Wausau, Helen (Mike) Iverson of Nekoosa and
Peter (Doreen) Grass of Wheaton, IL; a daughter-in-law, Sandy Grass
of Wausau; nine grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, three step
grandchildren and four step great-grandchildren.
Edna was preceded in death by her
husband, Paul, and brothers, Albert and Otto.
A funeral service for Edna will be held
at 1 p.m., Monday, April 5, 2010, at the Zion Evangelical Lutheran
Church in Granton. Pastor John Trewyn will officiate.
Music will provided by Caroline Helm, organist. Visitation
will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the church on Monday prior
to the service. Interment will be in the Zion Lutheran Church
Cemetery.
Special thanks to Scott, Lori, Judy and
the staff at Allison House; Rhonda, Lindsay, sarah, Jamie and the
