Kowalewski, Shirley (24 NOV 1955)
The Rev. Francis McCaffrey read the double ring ceremony at 11:00 a.m. on Nov. 24th, 1955 for Miss Shirley Ann Kowalewski and John F. Olson. The wedding took place at St. Patrick’s Sacristy.
The bride, who is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Mike Kowalewski, 523 6th Ave., Eau Claire, was escorted to the altar by her father. The groom is the son of Mrs. Dorothea Olson, 212 4th St., Eau Claire.
The bride wore a floor length gown of French Chantilly lace over bridal satin. The bodice had a yoke effect of illusion with a jeweled inset framing the mandarin collar and six button long sleeves. Alternate panels of scalloped edge lace and accordion pleated tulle formed the full skirt. Her fingertip veil of silk illusion fell from a pill box hat of matching lace with scalloped trimmed pearls. She carried a bouquet of white roses with streamers.
Miss Mary Margaret Kowalewski served her sister as maid of honor. She wore a fern green ballerina length gown of nylon chiffon over net and taffeta, styled with a strapless bodice and a stole, the empire waistline trimmed with seeded pearls and a full gathered skirt. She had matching brocaded pumps, net mitts and a velveteen net picture hat.
Miss Sylvia Jean Nowak of Evanston, Ill., cousin of the bride, was the bridesmaid. She wore a holly red gown and accessories styled identical to that of the maid of honor. Each attendant wore pearl chokers and earrings to match, gifts from the bride.
The bridal attendants carried identical white bouquets made of one large chrysanthemum surrounded by carnations, net and ribbon.
Jerry Flynn attended the groom as best man. Groomsman was Mike A Kowalewski, Jr., brother of the bride.
The bride’s mother wore a turquoise dress and the groom’s mother wore a navy blue dress for the ceremony. Each had a corsage of white carnations.
A dinner was held at noon and a reception the afternoon at the VFW Club.
The bride chose a navy blue suit with navy and baby blue accessories for her going away costume.
The couple will live at 1300 Clary St., Beloit, Wis., after Nov. 28.
Prenuptial showers were given by Dorothy and Mary Kowalewski and Sylvia Nowak, and by Mrs. Harlan Halmen, Mrs. Frank Preston, Mrs. Ed Nowak and Mrs. Art Krueschke.
