Gross, John (8 April 1949 - 2010) With
Flag
John Gross, 60, of Marshfield passed away
peacefully at his home, with his family by his side, under the care
of Ministry Home Hospice.
John was born in Neillsville April 8,
1949, to Leo and Marie (Vobora) Gross. Following his
graduation from the Neillsville High School, John joined the U. S.
Navy in November 1967. He proudly served as a machinist mate
on the USS Hancock, attaining the rank of E5 when honorably
discharged in November 1971.
Having grown up in a wrecking yard, John
evolved into a master mechanic and fabricator. He found
employment at various repair shops and later at the Marshfield
Power Plant for 13 years until it closed. John then started a
repair shop fixing whatever came up the driveway, sometimes
creating his own parts or tools to get the job done. After a
heart attack in 1999, he retired.
In October, 1982 John was united in
marriage to Ann Marie Wrensch. For 28 years the couple
enjoyed taking road trips, camping, biking and just being
together. John also enjoyed football, NASCAR and spending
time with his good buddy Noel. After retiring, John collected
many antique gas engines, seeking out ones that were in need of
repair. He enjoyed taking the engines to shows and meeting
other engine enthusiasts.
John is lovingly survived by his wife,
Ann Marie; mother Marie; and five stepchildren, Kimberle (John)
Glowacki of De Forest, Jill (Mark) Meyers of Marshfield, Holly
Wrensch of Fargo, ND, and Jason (Jill) Wrensch and Jacqueline
Tremelling, both of Marshfield. He is further survived by six
grandchildren, Noah and Sophia Glowacki, Patricia and Molly Meyers
and Louis and Joseph Wrensch. Also surviving are numerous
aunts, cousins and friends. He will truly be
missed.
John is preceded in death by his father,
Leo and a sister, Ann.
John - smaller in stature, quiet in
manner, was vast in wisdom and in accomplishment.
