Smoczyk, Ernest James (11 April 1955 - 2 April 2010) 
 

Ernest J. Smoczyk, age 54, of Stanley (formerly of Thorp) passed away on Friday, April 2, 2010, at his home. 
 

Funeral services were held on Wednesday, April 7, 2010, at 11:00 a.m. at the Thorp Funeral Home in Thorp, with Rev. Keith Apfelbeck officiating.  Burial followed in St. Hedwig’s Catholic Cemetery.  Visitation was held on Wednesday, April 7, 2010, from 9:00 a.m. until time of service at the Thorp Funeral Home. 
 

Ernest James Smoczyk was born on April 11, 1955, in Stanley, WI to Frank and Frances (Mendalski) Smoczyk.  He received his education at area schools and graduated from Thorp High School in 1973.   After completing his education, Ernest worked at Natzke’s Cheese Factory and Blue Moon Cheese Factory.  He was united in marriage to Pamela Hakes on December 2, 1978, at St. Bernard-St. Hedwig’s Catholic Church in Thorp.  They later divorced. 
 

Over the years, Ernest also worked for Wisconsin Truss Co. in Cornell and did some logging.  Most recently, Ernest worked on a dairy farm in Cadott. 
 

In his spare time, Ernest loved to go fishing, watch Green Bay Packer and Milwaukee Brewer games, and he loved to attend country music festivals whenever possible.  He was an easy going man who loved being around people and animals. 
 

Ernest is survived by his two children: Allisha (Nick) Blanchette of Weston, WI and Jesse (Jessica) Smoczyk of Marion, NC; three grandchildren: Trey, Talin, and Kendra; three step-grandchildren: Bethany, Savannah, and Michelle;  three brothers: Ed Smoczyk of Arcadia, Leon Smoczyk of Chippewa Falls, and Henry Smoczyk of Thorp; two sisters: Rose Meyer and Mary Kirschner, both of Stanley; nieces, nephews, and many friends. 
 

He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother: Benedict Smoczyk.
