Miller, Viola D. (Ferguson) (October 6, 1924 - March 28, 2010) 
 

Viola D. Miller, 85, Abbotsford, died Sunday, March 28, 2010 at the House of the Dove with her family at her side.   
 

Viola was born in Dana, Iowa, on October 6, 1924, to Alvah and Caroline (Grievey) Ferguson.   
 

She attended Dana Consolidated Elementary and graduated from Jefferson High School in 1942.   
 

The former Viola Ferguson married Leo Dale Miller on September 18, 1945, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Jefferson, Iowa.   
 

The couple farmed in Greene County, Iowa for 13 years. In 1958, they moved to a dairy farm in Colby which they operated until 1980, then moving to Abbotsford. They owned the Abby Car Wash from 1981 to 1989 and were co-owners for another six years.   
 

Viola was a writer and received many awards for her poetry. She began her writing career as a reporter for the Tribune-Phonograph in the early ‘60’s. She was a playwright for "Our Day of Recollection," a skit that is now in the archives in Madison.   
 

She was a member of St. Bernard’s Catholic Church and the PCCW. She was also a member of the Sandhill Homemakers, Clovernook and Clark County Homemakers Clubs.  
 

In her spare time she enjoyed writing poetry, genealogy, history, sewing, crosswords, Scrabble and various craft projects.    
 

Viola is survived by her children, Patrick (Carol) Miller, Wausau, Teresa(Robert) Misener, Washburn, Mary (Alan) Griepentrog, Abbotsford, Regina (Dale) Bauer, Mazomanie, Suzanne (Gary Felber) Wirre, Norwalk, Kathleen (Bryan) Hauser, Merrill, Janet (Douglas) Kops, Colby, and John (Angela) Miller, Dorchester; 23 grandchildren; and 33 great-grandchildren. 

 
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, March 31, 2010 at St Bernard’s Catholic Church, Abbotsford. Father S. Nathan will preside. Burial will be in Abbotsford Public Cemetery, with Viola’s grandsons, David Miller, Scott Misener, Jeffrey Diedrich, Andrew Bauer, Thomas Wirrer, Jason Hauser, Anthony Kops and Jeremiah Miller serving as casket bearers. A time of visitation will be held from 4-8:00 p.m. Tuesday at the Maurina-Schilling Funeral Home in Abbotsford, where the Rosary will be prayed at 8:00 p.m. Visitation will also be held one hour prior to service time at the church on Wednesday.
