Vesely, Ann M. (Balkus) (May 28, 1916 - March 31, 2010)

Ann M. Vesely, 93, Dorchester, found peace on Wednesday, March 31, 2010 after residing for seven years at the Continental Manor-Golden Living Center in Abbotsford.

Ann Mary Balkus was born on May 28, 1916 in Cicero, Ill., the daughter of Isadore and Barbara (Burzanski) Balkus.

She was united in marriage to Leo Vesely on November 26, 1938 and lived in Chicago until 1952. The couple then moved and bought a farm just east of Dorchester. In 1960, they bought a tavern, the "Cozy Corner", in Dorchester where they both worked until they retired. She was remembered, by many, for her famous "Friday night fish fries."

Ann is survived by her son, Kenneth (Julie) Vesely, Abbotsford; her daughter, Carolyn (Chuck) Sammer of Menomonee Falls; three grandchildren, Cheryl (Paul) Golabiewski, Fredonia, Craig (Nicole) Vesely, Barneveld, Andrea (Randy) Fuerst, Stevens Point; four great-grandchildren, Andrew and Abbey Golabiewski, Alexa and Carter Vesely; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Leo; three brothers, Jim, Charlie and Victor Balkus; and two sisters, Stella Mankus and Nancy Balkus.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 2:00 p.m. Monday, April 5, 2010 at St. Louis Catholic Church in Dorchester, with Rev. Sahayanathan Nathan presiding. Interment will follow in the Dorchester Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Craig Vesely, Delmar Vesely, Randy Fuerst, Paul Golabiewski, Andrew Golabiewski and Mark Gorke. Visitation will be held at the church on Monday, from 11:30 a.m. until time of service.

Ann's family would like to thank Dr. Writz and all of the wonderful staff at the Golden Living Center for the loving care they provided for her. You are special people!

Dallmann-Kniewel Funeral Home, of Medford, is assisting the family with arrangements.
