Sophie Koltis, age 94, of Thorp passed
away on Wednesday, April 7, 2010 at Oakbrook Health & Rehab in
Thorp.
Funeral services were held on Tuesday,
April 13, 2010 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Bernard-St. Hedwig’s
Catholic Church in Thorp. Rev. Keith Apfelbeck officiated and
burial followed in St. Hedwig’s Catholic Cemetery.
Pallbearers were: Tony Wilczek, Chester
Karpinski, Dan Hull, Roy Lato, John Stroinski, and Dan
Gronwoldt. Visitation was held on Tuesday, April 13, 2010
from 9:00 a.m. until time of service at the church.
Sophie Wilczek was born on May 15, 1915
in Thorp, WI to Steve and Josephine (Mudelewski) Wilczek and was
educated at the Jackson School south of Thorp. She was united
in marriage to Edward S. Koltis on September 17, 1938 at St.
Hedwig’s Catholic Church in Thorp. They farmed for many years
until moving to the city of Thorp in 1967. Sophie loved
flowers and also loved to garden. She could be seen weeding
her garden in the early morning hours before it got too hot.
She remained at the house after her husband’s death, until
entering Oakbrook Health & Rehab in 2007. While at
Oakbrook, Sophie always enjoyed playing bingo and winning those "2
dollar bills".
Sophie is survived by her son, Edward A. (Diane) Koltis of Thorp; two granddaughters: Ann (John) Stroinski
of Thorp and Sandra (Don) Gronwoldt of Riceville, Iowa; five
great-grandchildren: Dale, Jeff, and Ben Stroinski, and Andrea and
Zachary Gronwoldt.
She was preceded in death by her parents;
her husband, Edward S. Koltis on April 6, 2004; one sister, Mary
Karpinski; and one brother, Frank Wilczek.
