Haas, Anna (18 May 1867-19 Nov. 16 1947)
The Rev. Leo Wedl, a nephew, read the requiem high mass Wednesday morning, Nov. 19, for Mrs. Anna Haas, who passed away at the home of her son, Raphael, at 8 o’clock Sunday evening, Nov. 16. She had been in poor health for several years due to a heart ailment.
Anna Haas, nee Wedl, daughter of the late Adam and Anna Wedl, was born in Jefferson on May 18, 1867. She married John Haas in 1892 at Jefferson. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Lucille, in 1919 and by Mr. Haas in 1931. Surviving are a daughter, Bernetta, and a son, Raphael, of Loyal, a son, Alfred, of St. Paul, and eight grandchildren.
At the age of 20, Mrs. Haas came from Jefferson to teach school in the little log church erected where the Harry Schlinsog cheese factory now stands in Pelsdorf. Among her pupils were Mrs. Susan Wedl and the late A. J. Braun.
Her pleasing personality, her cheery smile and her constant thoughtfulness of others endeared her to her every acquaintance. Her ability and willingness to sing and her little jokes and stories will long be remembered by many as the outstanding feature of many gatherings in this vicinity.
After their marriage, Mr. and Mrs. Haas bought a farm at Mazomanie. There their four children were born.
In 1909 the Haas family moved to Loyal, purchasing the entire section of wild land, northwest of Loyal. Gradually farms were sold from this, keeping what is known as the present Haas farm. In 1923 she and her husband moved into the village of Loyal, where she resided until two years ago, when due to ill health, she and her daughter, Bernetta, made their home with her son, Raphael, and family on the home farm.
While she was in good health she attended mass almost daily. She was a faithful worker in her religion and was a member of St, Mary’s Altar Society since its organization.
Pallbearers at the funeral were Alvin Miller, Peter Johnson, William Theisen Sr., Lawrence Davel, Frank Rueth and John Bannach. Interment was made in St. Anthony’s parish cemetery.
Among those from out of town who were present for the funeral were: Mr. and Mrs. Alfred Haas and children, Allan, Pricilla, Pamela and Penelope, and Mrs. Walter Gelschlegel of St. Paul; Frank Wedl of Glen View, Ill.; the Rev. Leo Wedl amd Sister Lucinda Wedl of Milwaikee; Mrs. Ed Hennsen, Mrs. Ray Fisher, Mrs. Gertie Schecklman, Mrs. Nora Niebler, Robert Wedl and son, Marvin Wedl, Pete Wedl, Roman Wedl and Mrs. John Vogel, all of Jefferson; Mr. and Mrs. George Haas of Sauk City and Joe Haas of Madison.
The Tribune extends to the bereaved its sympathy in the loss of a beloved mother and grandmother.
