Lawrence, Dorothy (23 APRIL 1917-31 MARCH 2010)

 

Dorothy M. Lawrence, 92, formerly of Marshfield and Spencer, died on Wednesday, March 31, 2010, surrounded by her loving family, at the Clark County Health Care Center, Owen, where she had resided for the past 6 ½ years. Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, April 3, at Wesley United Church, Marshfield. The Rev. Ruth Eggerer officiated. Burial took place in York Center Cemetery, town of York. Serving as pallbearers were grandsons, Marty Lawrence, Jason Lawrence, Joshua Lawrence, Jim Kappel, Todd Oppman an d Kevin Anason.

 

Dorothy W. Vanderhoof was born on April 23, 1917, in Spencer, to Benjamin and Myra (nee Cole) Vanderhoof. She was the first of 12 children and was raised on a farm in the town of Sherman. She attended Holmes School. She married Byrl E. Lawrence on Jan. 23, 1937, in Neillsville. He passed away on July 19, 1974. Following their marriage, she and her husband worked on farms in the Neillsville and Christie area before moving to Spencer to operate a gas station. They later began farming in the Spencer area. In 1957, they moved to Marshfield. In 1963, she became employed at Weinbrenner Shoe Factory, where she retired in 1908. She was a member of Wesley United Church and the United Commercial Travelers, of which she was a past officer.

 

Survivors include four sons, Raymond (Margie) Lawrence, Marshfield, Alden (Joyce) Lawrence, Marshfield, Rocky (LaVOnne) Lawrence, Neillsville, and Arlyn (fiancee Trina Grothmann) Lawrence, Merrillan; 13 grandchildren, Cindy (Jim) Kappel, Becky (Todd) Lawrence-Oppman, Connie (Kevin) Anason, Cheri Ludwig, Marty (Kelly) Lawrence, Chris Lawrence, Tanya (Patrick) Ponshock, Tara (Daniel) Ziaya, Billi (Steven) Tollers Jr., Jody Lawrence, Jason Lawrence, Joshua Lawrence, and Amy Lawrence; two step-grandchildren, Randy Apker and Sheri (Jamie) Kiser; 16 great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; four step-great-great-grandchildren; two brothers, Charles (Ruth) Vanderhoof, Colby, and Archie (NIla) Vanderhoof, Arpin, and a special friend, Carol (Dave) Lawrence-Poehnelt.

 

Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband, Byrl; one grandson, Aric; eight sisters; a brother; and a special friend, Cletus Susa.

 

Her family wished to extends its appreciation and sincere thanks to the 2 East staff at Clark County Health Cars Center for the outstanding medical and family-like tender care they gave our dear mother and grandmother over the past 6 ½ years.

 

Memorials may be sent to Clark County Health Care Center Memorial Park, Ministry Home Care Hospice Services, the Marshfield Clinic for Alzheimer’s research or Wesley United Methodist Church.
