George M. Klovas, 83, Thorp, died on Wednesday, April 21, 2010. at Saint Joseph’s Hospital, Marshfield. A Mass of Christian Burial was held at 10:30 a.m., on Saturday, April 24, at Holy Family Catholic Church, Willard. The Rev. Joseph Follmar officiated. Burial followed in Holy Family Catholic Cemetery. Pallbearers were Kyle Carlson, Ryan Klocvas, Brady Bielecki, Bill Klovas Jr., Jerry Durham and Bill Kowieski.

 

George Matthew Klovas was born on Sept. 7, 1926, in the town of Mead, rural Thorp, to William Sr. and Antoinette (nee Lucas) Klovas. He was raised in rural Thorp and received his education at the Butlerville schools. He enlisted in the U. S. Army Air Corp and served during World War ll From Dec. 20, 1945, until his honorable discharge on Jan. 3, 1947. He married Rosalie M. Niedzwiecki on Oct. 25, 1947, at St. Hedwig’s Catholic Church, Thorp. They began their married life living in Kenosha, before moving back to Thorp in 1951, where they farmed until retirement. Along with farming, he also was a heavy equipment operator for Plautz Bros. Construction, as well as a patrolman for the town of Butler.

 

He was a lifetime member of Holy Family Catholic Church, Willard, a member of the Thorp American Legion Post #118, a member of the Knights of Columbus Queen of Peace Council #4634, and a member of the Rock Dam Rod and Gun Club. He enjoyed playing pool in league, playing cards and spending time at the casino. He also enjoyed hunting, fishing and spending time with family and friends.

 

He will be sadly missed by his three sons, James Klovas, Elma, Wash., Jerry Klovas, Puyallup, Wash., and Ronald (Lynn) Klovas, Thorp; two daughters, Jeanne Frenette, Thorp, and Mary Beth (Gary) Petersen, Thorp; 12 grandchildren, Holly, Sarah, Jerod, Rebecca, January, Kari, Jaclene, Aaron, ryan, Jessica, Amy and Kyle; four great-grandchildren, Mya, Tyler, Ava and Brooklyn; two brothers, William Klovas Sr., Muskego, and Richard (Betty) Klovas, Haquiam, Wash.; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

 

Preceding him in death were his parents; his wife, Rosalie, on Sept. 12, 2008; and two sisters, Marian Garrett and Betty Isham.

 

His family would like to thank the Thorp Area Ambulance, and the staff at Our Lady of Victory and St. Joseph’s hospitals for the excellent care that he received.
