Barna, Michael (1954 - 15 OCT 1956)
Mrs. Leonard (Helen) Simon, route 2, Owen (Clark Co., Wis.), is under a physician’s care, being treated for shock suffered early Monday morning when her car struck and killed Michael Barna, two and one-half years old son of Mr. and Mrs. Anton Barna.
The tragic accident occurred at 10:15 eight miles north of Owen on County Truck DD, in Taylor County. The tot had been playing in the yard of Alex Hargot, Barna’s neighbor, when he darted for home, running in front of Mrs. Simon’s car.
There apparent were not witnesses to the accident as Mrs. Simon stopped her car immediately and began calling for help. A farm hand employed on the Barna farm was nearby plowing and didn’t see the accident nor heard Mrs. Simon’s call for help.
The youngster was rushed to the hospital in Medford by Mr. Hargot and his mother but was pronounce dead upon arrival.
Called to the scene were Mrs. Simon’s brother, Adolph Haavisto, who in turn notified Taylor County authorities who termed the death accidental.
Funeral arrangements were handled by Griebenow Funeral Home, city, with services being held yesterday morning from the Russian Orthodox Church at Lublin.
