Slocomb, Mr. ? (Attempted suicide - Feb
1913)
[first part of article is missing]
. . . an attempt to commit
suicide.
He was alone in the house, with the
exception of the small children, and being in a despondent mood,
took a razor and went to the cellar and cut a large and deep gash
on each side of his neck under the jaw bone, but the throat was not
cut.
He was first discovered by one of the
small children who took the lantern to bring up some wood from the
cellar. He reached the wood pile and upon returning was very
frightened to see his father lying on the floor with blood on his
neck and a razor in his hand and rushed up the stairs to tell his
brother, Ernie, who at once went to A. Blumenstein’s to get
his brother, Asa. When he arrived he telephoned for Dr.
McGonigal, who answered the summons at once and found Mr. Slocomb
lying on the cellar floor near a large pool of blood. He
sewed up the gashes with the assistance of George Kronschnabl but
did not at the time expect him to live over an hour. Strange
to say he is still living and there are good hopes of his
eventually recovering. At present he is getting along
nicely.
Mr. Slocomb gives no reason for his rash attempt to kill himself and now only says he must have been crazy to attempt such an act. - Loyal Tribune
