Berken, Emma (18 MAR 1878 - 8 JAN 1957)
Emma Amelia Berken, one of the few remaining pioneer residents of this community (Owen, Clark Co., Wis.) passed away at 6:30 Tuesday morning at the Havenet Nursing Home where she had been a resident but two days. She had been in poor health for six months, having suffered two strokes quite recently.
She had attained the age of 78 years, 10 months and 20 days.
Funeral services will be held at two o’clock Friday afternoon, Jan. 11, from the Hoeper and Kraut Funeral Home. Rev. H. D. Wagner will officiate, with Mrs. Wagner rendering the vocal selections. Interment will be made at Riverside Cemetery.
Serving as pallbearers will be Gus Braun, Henry Gust, Dr. C. M. Torason, Clarence Pyatt, Richard Rabska and Herman Rabska. In charge of the floral offerings will be Mrs. H.V. Anderson, Mrs. Clarence Pyatt, Mrs. Harry Dempsey and Mrs. Clarence DeCremer.
The deceased was born in Germany, coming to this country with her parents when a youngster of three years of age. In 1898 she was united in marriage to Peter Berken in a ceremony performed at Glenwood City, Wis. In 1906 the couple came to Owen where she has resided ever since. Her husband preceded her in death, having passed away Jan. 22, 1929.
She is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Fred (Edna) Boden of Bakersfield, Calif., and a son Walter of Owen.
