Delmar Sternitzky was born on May 15, 1928, in Granton, to Alvin
and Edna (nee Burdick) Sternitzky. He graduated from Maple Grove
Country Grade School and Granton High School, class of 1947. He
lived on a farm near Granton until 1948, at which time he moved to
Spencer and bought a farm. On May 31, 1952, at Grace Lutheran
Church, Nasonville, he married Margie Luchterhand.
They owned and operated the dairy farm in the town of Spencer where
they raised four children. The family resided on the farm until
retiring in 1977. After selling the farm, the couple moved to town.
He also worked at Roddis Wood Products, Figi’s

wheat fields at various times in his life.
He enjoyed playing sheepshead, and visiting relatives and friends.
He will always be remembered for his research and documentation of
the Sternitzky family history. He was also an avid reader and
storyteller. One story that was sure to be told was how he almost
drowned in a gravel pit at the age of 9, but was saved by his
cousin, Leslie (David) Sternitzky. He was an active member of the
Zion Lutheran Church.
