Gross, Sophia (14 Sept 1877-05 Jan 1948)

Mrs. Sophia Gross (nee Dutcher) was born on Sept. 14, 1877, in the town of Loyal and passed away at a hospital in Richland Center on Monday, Jan. 5, having reached 70 years of age.

On May 15, 1900, she was married to Fred Gross of Loyal. To this union were born three sons and a daughter; Pliny Gross of Riverside, Cal., Russell Gross of Richfield, Cal., Melvin Gross of Milwaukee, and Eva Johnson of Soldiers Grove. Survivors, besides her husband and four children, are a sister, Viola Pline, of Portland Ore., and 12 grandchildren.

She had only recently moved to Soldiers Grove to make her home with her daughter.

Funeral services were held on Jan, 8 at the Chitwood funeral home in Soldiers Grove, the Rev. W. T. Walker officiating. Burial was in Forest Hill cemetery.

Mrs. Gross had been the victim of heart trouble, complicated with other things, for many years. She was a mother with a keen interest in her family, and from girlhood she was a member of the Methodist church, first in Greenwood and later in Loyal.
