Devine, Morris (15 MAR 1901 - 30 MAR 1957)
Residents of the community were shocked Saturday when they learned of the death of Morris Devine, 56, who succumbed to a heart attack early Saturday morning, about 1:15 a.m., at his home. He had been a resident of this city for the past 49 years.
Funeral services were conducted at 9 o’clock yesterday morning at the Holy Rosary Church with Rev. H. L. Crubel officiating. Burial was made at Riverside Cemetery. Six nephews, Robert, Ted, Peter, David, Burt and Pat Devine, served as pallbearers.
Morris Ignatius Devine was born March 15, 1901 at Glenwood City, Wis., being the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. James Devine. In 1907 his parents moved to Ladysmith residing there but one year before coming to Owen in 1908. He received his education in the Ladysmith and Owen school systems and then went into the cattle buying business.
On Nov. 16, 1934, he was united in marriage to Martha Vetterkind Harsky in a ceremony performed at St. Bernard’s Church at Abbotsford. He is survived by his wife, two children, a daughter June, who is a student at Wis. State College at Eau Claire and a son Michael, a senior in the Owen-Withee High School; three brothers, George of Boyd, James, Jr., of Withee and john of Milwaukee and 19 nieces and nephews.
