Florence Carl, 85, of Neillsville died Sunday, May
30, 2010, in the Palliative Care Unit of St. Joseph’s
Hospital in Marshfield.
Florence Mae Carl was born March 17, 1925, the
daughter of Albert and Anna (Mayer) Zimmerman in Delavan. Her
family moved to Humbird in 1929 where Florence attended the
Holtenburg, Fairview and Sunnyside Schools. She graduated
from Humbird High School in 1942. She met Arnold Carl April
9, 1942, at the Silver Dome Ballroom, where they both enjoyed
dancing and roller skating. She worked at the courthouse in
Black River Falls and did housework and worked at St.
Joseph’s Nursing Home also in Black River Falls. She
also worked at Badger Ordinance in Eau Claire, making bullets
during World War II. She moved to Neillsville and worked at
the Merchant’s Hotel, O. J. Svirnoff cattle buyer and the
Dime Store. She was united in marriage to Arnold Carl June 1,
1946. Their first home was an apartment in the Hoesly House, and
after the birth of their first child, they moved to their present
house and resided there for 61 years. After marriage she
worked at McCain’s until the birth of their first child when
she decided to stay home and be a homemaker.
Florence was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary and
the Eagles Club, selling raffle calendars each year. She
contributed to many charities always wanting to help when she
could. She enjoyed those who visited and cared and her weekly hair
appointment with Natalie and her one glass of beer with
Cliff.
With the vigilant care of her daughters, she was
given her greatest wish to be at home until her last surgery took
her from us and placed her into the gentle, loving care of the
Palliative Care staff or her final 41 hours. May Mom now rest
peacefully.
She is survived by her children, Kenneth Carl, Kathy (Quentin) Hagen, Bonnie Carl and Randy (Bobbie Jo Opelt) Carl, all
of Neillsville; seven grandchildren, Chris Hagen, Doug (Lisa)
Hagen, Laura Hagen, Rebecca (Kevin) Cepress, Michael Carl, Ryan

Christen.
