Robert Mashin, 78, of Neillsville died peacefully in
his sleep Tuesday, June 1, 2010, at his home.
Robert Lee Mashin was born Feb. 16, 1932, the son of
George and Dorothea Marie (Schroeder) Mashin in Guttenburg, IA.
Shortly after he was born his family moved to the Neillsville area
and resided in Columbia (area of Hewett) Township. He attended
Sunny Knook (Nook) Grade School and the Neillsville Public
School. Robert enlisted in the United States Army in October
of 1951 and served in the Korean War. He returned home in
June of 1953 and began working for Kurt Marg.
He was united in marriage to Carol Marie Clodfelter
July 23, 1955. In September 1955, they moved to Illinois
where he worked at various jobs. They returned to Neillsville
in 1967 and Bob went to work for Land-O-Lakes in Spencer for a
couple of years. He then took a job at the Neillsville
Foundry and worked there for many years, retiring in
1997.
Bob was a member of the Haugen-Richmond American
Legion Post 73 in Neillsville. He loved NASCAR and enjoyed
woodworking, model railroading, hunting, fishing and
camping.
He is survived by his wife, Carol, of Neillsville;
children, Marvin (Linda) Mashin of Neillsville, Marilyn Mashin of
Savage, MN, and Marlin (Mary) Mashin of Neillsville; seven
grandchildren, Greg Mashin, Ryan Mashin, Nichole Lindquist, Alicia
Lindquist, Amanda Eddy, Michelle Mashin and Christopher Mashin; one
great-grandchild, Talan Suda; a sister, Iris (Stanley) Wampole; a
brother, Donald (Carol) Mashin of Neillsville and many nephews,
nieces and friends.
Funeral services for Robert were held at 2 p.m.
Saturday, June 5, at the Gesche Funeral Home in Neillsville.
Pastor Al Houts officiated. Interment was in the Neillsville
City Cemetery with Military Honors accorded by the Neillsville
Veterans Council. Visitation was from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday
and again Saturday from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. at the Gesche Funeral
Home.
Honorary Casketbearers were his grandchildren,
Nicole Lindquist, Ryan Mashin, Amanda Eddy, Michelle Mashin,
Christopher Mashin and a great-grandson, Talan Suda.
Casketbearers were a grandson, Greg Mashin, a
nephew, Doug Wampole and friends, Mark Gilbert, Richard Vanderhoff,
Terry Ward and Roger Polzin.
