Whitcomb, Ella A. (29 Oct 1852 - 23 Jul 1913)

Mrs. Fred Whitcomb died at Sacred Heart Hospital at Eau Claire last Wednesday evening, the operation which she underwent Monday being futile.  She was born Ella A. Morris at Richland City, Wis., on Oct. 29, 1852, to Charles and Katherine Morris.  When she was seven years of age her parents moved to Augusta and she grew to young womanhood there.  On August 2, 1876, she was united in marriage to F.W. Whitcomb and they resided at Humbird for a couple years, coming to Neillsville in 1881.  Neillsville has been their home almost continuously since that time and here Mrs. Whitcomb gathered about her the circle of very sincere friends which her character and disposition deserved.  She was the mother of three children, Hugh, Grace and Ruth, and they, with their father, remain to mourn the absence of a devoted wife and mother.

Mrs. Whitcomb was a teacher in the Neillsville schools during the years of 1873, 1874, and 1875.  She was a member of the Congregational Church and the Monday Progress Club.  Being a great home woman, she devoted much of her time to intellectual attainments that her home and children might have the benefit.  Sincerity and true friendship were two of her many excellent qualities and she was accordingly held in high esteem by all who knew her.  She is also survived by one brother and two sisters, E.W. Morris of Bismark, N.D., Mrs. McCumber of Augusta and Miss Stella Morris of Seattle.  The funeral was held Saturday, services being conducted by Rev. Risser at the Congregational Church and interment being made in the family lot in the cemetery at Augusta.

Those who were here for the funeral were Hugh Whitcomb and wife of St. Paul, Mrs. F.W. Sweet of Minneapolis, Miss Ruth Whitcomb of Beatrice, Neb., Ernest Kopecky of Beatrice, E.W. Morris and wife of Bismark, Vet McCumber and wife of Augusta, Mrs. Sherwood of Duluth, Mrs. E.Q. Thomas of Eau Claire.  Miss Stella Morris, sister of the deceased, did not arrive here until Sunday.
