Welker, Vern (13 OCT 1896 - 12 DEC 1957)

 

Vern Welker passed away Thursday evening, Dec. 12, 1957, at 10 o’clock after suffering a heart attack.

 

He was born on Oct. 13, 1896, at Louden, Iowa.  He grew to manhood there and served in the First World War.  In the year of 1920 he came to Owen (Clark Co., Wis.) with his parents and lived on the farm southeast of Owen.  On Dec. 29, 1925, he was united in marriage with Hester Schaffer at St. Paul, Minn.  They have resided in Owen since that time.

 

Mr. Welker had worked at the electrical trade all his life.  He had served as Alderman on the Owen City Council for eight years.  He was a member of the Owen Masonic Lodge for 25 years.

 

He is survived by his wife, Hester, one daughter, Sandra of Downers Grove, Ill.; a brother, Orville Welker of Owen; his mother and sister, Mrs. Henry (Mable) Myhre of Stanley, and numerous nephews and nieces.  He was preceded in death by his sister, Mrs. Julius (Faye) Myhre of Stanley, a brother Dewey, and his father.

 

Services were conducted at the Hoeper and Kraut Funeral Home on Sunday, Dec. 15 at 2:00 o’clock in the afternoon, with Rev. Clayton Nielsen officiating.  Masonic services followed and were conducted by Owen Lodge 317 F. & A.M., with Russell Westendorf officiating.  Serving as pallbearers were S. E. Grimec, Dr. Scharer, Ken Mathewson, Gordon Thorson, Merle Haralson and Clarence Strohkirch.  In charge of the flowers were Arlie Hutchins, Mrs. Virginia Mathewson, Mrs. Katie Strohkirch, Mrs. Hilda Devine and Mrs. LaLonde.

 

Interment was made in Riverside Cemetery.
