Nystad, Hans (28 SEPT 1892 - 17 APRIL 1948)

Hans Emil Nystad, 55, who died in the Marine hospital at Seattle, Wash.,  on Apr. 17, was born in Tromso, Norway on Sept. 29, 1892.

He received his education in Norway and came to America at the age of 18 years. He settled at Colfax, where he lived for several years. He then became a steward, serving on ships and trains. The past 25 years he spent in the employ of the government in a fish and wildlife project, operating out of Seattle.

When he became seriously ill, his brother, Peter Nystad, left immediately for Seattle but did not arrive there until after his death. His body was then brought to Loyal for burial.

Funeral services were held in the Loyal funeral home at 2 p.m. Saturday, Apr. 24, with the Rev. John C. Langholz officiating. Mrs. Romaine Rossow, accompanied by Miss Mary Nystad, sang "The Old Rugged Cross" and "Nearer My God to Thee." Miss Eunice Langholz played the instrumental music for the services. Burial was in the Loyal cemetery.

Misses Mary and Wanda  Nystad served as flower girls and the pallbearers were Reuben Olson, Burton Finet, Julius Nystad, Leonard Noeldner, Leonard Nystad, and Orville Nystad.

Surviving the deceased are his mother in Norway; a sister, Mrs. Olaf Olson, of Colfax; a sister, Mrs. Olivia Anderson, of Madison; his brother, Peter; three sisters and brothers in Norway, and many nieces and nephews.

Those from out of town who attended the service were: Mr. and Mrs. Jack Plenke and daughters of Wisconsin Rapids, Mr. and Mrs. Earl Hammer, Mr. and Mrs. Olaf Olson and Mr. and Mrs. Edward Iverson of Colfax, Mrs Olivia Anderson of Madison, Mr. and Mrs. Howard Hoode, Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Johnson and Reuben Olson of Minneapolis, Mr.and Mrs. Leonard Nystad and Orville Nystad of Northfield, Minn., and Mr. and Mrs. Burton Finet of Wausau.
