Neillsville, Wisconsin (March - 1903)
A week from next Monday D. B. Manes and family depart for their new home at Ladysmith. It seems a great step to the family, who have always lived here, especially the children who were born and raised on the old home west of the city, which has been sold. But Ladysmith is not far away, and we hope to see them often.
Henry Imig has been laid up for a couple of weeks, with a tumor on his thigh, which he had removed by Dr. Conroy. After the operation he was compelled to lie for about a week on one side, which was all the punishment he cared for. He was at the Ayers sanitarium.
The Northwestern and the St. Paul roads are talking of putting on trains that will reduce the time between Chicago and St. Paul by one hour and twenty-five minutes. The mail carrying contract with the government is said to be at the bottom of the proposed speed war.
Some weeks ago the Times referred to the fact that Neillsville was to have a new grain elevator and grist mill. Since then plans have matured and material in part delivered for the building, and as soon as weather conditions permit work will be begun on the building. It will stand adjoining A. B. Marsh’s present warehouse adjoining the Omaha right of way, and will be wholly that gentleman’s enterprise. Al understands the business thoroughly, from his long experience in that line here, and will put up just what the trade requires. He will do every kind of milling except making white flour.
