Meinhardt, Mary C. #3 (17 DEC 1896 - 16 JAN 1956)
Mrs. Mary Charlotte Meinhardt fell asleep in Jesus Monday afternoon, Jan. 16, 1956, about 12:20 in the afternoon, at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Walter Petke. It was two weeks and a day since she suffered the heart attack at her last living presence in St. John’s Lutheran Church, Withee, of which she was a devoted member and president of the Ladies Aid for many years. Still young in appearance, she lived only 59 years, and one day less than a month. We are deeply grieved together with her dear family at her untimely passing, but her memory of activity and zeal will continue to live among us.
She was the daughter of Martin Barnaske and his wife, Angeline, nee Phillips, and was born Dec. 17, 1896, at Waukesha, Wis. In her infancy she was baptized in the Lutheran Church at Waukesha, and confirmed in 1912 at Gilman, Wis., by Pastor Gohlko. She was united in the bonds of holy matrimony on June 3, 1913, at Chippewa Falls, Wis., to her husband, August Meinhardt, who preceded her in death July 17, 1950, a little more than five years ago. The union was blessed with three sons and two daughters. One son, Elroy, died at the age of three.
She is survived by one brother, Johan Barnaske of Owen, Wis., one sister, Mrs. Martha Andrews, Rice Lake, Wis., two sons, Rev. Arthur Meinhardt (Congregational), of Dubuque, Ia., and Franklin Meinhardt in the Navy (he could not come home for his mother’s funeral, being stationed in the Aleutians), and two daughters, Elinor (Mrs. Walter Petke), and Alice (Mrs. Arthur Petke), two grandsons, and fie granddaughters.
Funeral services were held Friday afternoon, Jan. 20, at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Withee, Wis. Pastor Theo. Predoehl preached on John 10:10. "I am come and they might have life and that they might have it more abundantly." The choir sang two hymns and Mrs. Al Petke a solo. Mrs. Wirtala was organist. Pallbearers were near relatives.
