Dear Abbie:
My mother tells me in her letters that you are the one responsible for sending me The Greenwood Gleaner. I wish to take this opportunity to thank you very much as I really appreciate it and would like to pay you for it when I can get my hands on some American dollars, as over here we are not supposed to have any greenbacks, just plasters. I never knew the paper could be so interesting as I read everything, including the Diet-Dex advertisements from the Greenwood Drug Store.
I am in a hospital recovering from a leg wound received from a V-C claymore mine. I am coming along nicely and should be able to walk without crutches in a week or even less.
General Westmoreland came through the other day talking to all of the injured soldiers. He passed out Purple Heart Medals but sometime, or all the time, I would give mine back for a good leg. Although in a month I will have probably forgotten all about my leg.
Well thanks again as I really appreciate it.
Yours Truly,
Terry McConnell
