Thompson, Richard S. (3 June 1928 - 3 July 2010)
Richard S. Thompson, 82, of Marshfield entered eternal life Saturday, July 3, 2010, at the Marshfield House of the Dove.
Richard was born June 3, 1928, in Stanley, the son of Lars and Josephine (Halvorson) Thompson. In 1945, at the age of 17, Richard enlisted in the U. S. Navy. He later returned home and graduated from Neillsville High School in 1947. He was united in holy marriage to the former Bernice Strebing June 2, 1947, in Neillsville. Richard went on to work at Rollohome, Peoples Gas Company and Roddis Door Factory (Weyerhaeuser).
Richard was a long-time member and former council member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Marshfield. He was also a proud member of the N R A and VFW Post 1866. He enjoyed fishing, woodworking and making firewood. He will always be remembered as a true outdoorsman and avid bow and rifle hunter.
Richard is lovingly survived by his wife Bernice of Marshfield; children, Mary (William) Kastern of Chili, Connie (Ronald) Bredemann of Hewitt, Daniel (Jodee) Thompson of Marshfield, Peter Thompson of Lindsey, Richard Thompson, Jr. of Nekoosa, Melvin (Ruth) Thompson of Withee and Amy Bolz of Medford. He is further survived by 19 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild, as well as many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. He will be truly missed.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Lars and Josephine; a daughter, Kathie; and a son, Samuel.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, July 8, at the Trinity Lutheran Church, Marshfield. The Rev. Jon Guenther will officiate. A time of visitation will be held from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday, July 7, at the Hansen-Schilling Funeral Home in Marshfield. Burial will be in the Trinity Lutheran Cemetery, Marshfield. VFW Post 1866 will provide military honors.
