Neillsville (Indian School Opens –3 Sept. 1928)
The Neillsville Winnebago Indian School opened Monday with a large attendance - in fact larger than the school can accommodate; 72 pupils were on hand Tuesday morning and the school is supposed to accept only 70, and still others came that had to be sent home. It is hoped that next year the new addition will be completed and all children can be taken.
Supt. Ben Stucki expects this to be a good year in the school and has worked tirelessly to mature plans for the coming year. The following is a list of the faculty:
Mr. Ben Stucki, Superintendent
Cilla Kippenhan, Appleton, teacher 5th to 8th grades; Gretchen Hauser, La Crosse, 2nd to 4th grades; Inez Smith, Chetek, Kindergarten and 1st grade.
Esther Humke, Greenwood, General Supervisor of household; Lester Smith, Plymouth, Manual Training and Director of Athletics; Irma Olm, Stratford, Girls’ Supervisor; and Bertha Schneider, New Glarus, Stenographer.
The cook, boys’ supervisor and farm hand not yet secured. Mrs. Eberhardt is helping out for the present.
