Short, Joan Yvonne (1 Sept. 1929 - 19 July 2010)
Joan Short, 80, of Neillsville died Monday, July 19, 2010, at the Neillsville Care and Rehabilitation Center.
Joan Yvonne Short was born in Black River Falls Sept. 1, 1929, the daughter of Archie and Bessy (Helbling) Amo. Joan graduated from Black River High School. During her high school years, she sang with the Blue Baronettes and traveled with them throughout Wisconsin. She was united in marriage to Floyd Short Sept. 3, 1949, in Black River Falls. Joan was a homemaker and did volunteer work for the American Red Cross and the American Cancer Society. She also enjoyed her outings with her Country Club friends. Joan was a member of the United Church of Christ.
She is survived by her husband, Floyd, of Neillsville; a son, Bill (Becky) Short of Granton; a daughter, Mary Jo (Roy) Riebe of Baronet; six grandchildren, Karl Riebe, Chris Wesenberg, Mike Short, Leah Riebe, Josh Short and Tyler Short; and two great-grandchildren. She is also survived by two sisters, Irene Torkelson of Black River Falls and Dorothy Nemitz of Fort Atkinson.
Joan was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Gene Amo and Bob Amo.
Funeral services for Joan will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, July 23, 2010 at the United Church of Christ in Neillsville. Pastor Mark Schwinn will officiate. Providing music will be Eileen Zank, organist. Visitation will be held from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday, July 22, 2010, at the Gesche Funeral Home in Neillsville and again from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Friday at the church.
