Greenwood (Recall - 22 November 1928)

A petition was prepared and signed by a considerable number of voters in the city of Greenwood asking that a special election be held for the purpose of recalling two members of the City Council, and the petition was submitted to County Judge O. W. Schoengarth, who under the statute must decide as to the sufficiency of the petition and if found sufficient shall issue a certificate to that effect, whereupon a special election will be held.

The controversy appears to have arisen over the action of the City Council in ordering the building and construction of certain sewers and water mains in the city.

In fact, two different petitions were presented one for the recall of B. L. Barnes and one for the recall of James Fradette. The Court took them under consideration and on Saturday rendered a decision that both of said petitions are defective and setting forth in one four specific defects and in the other five defects, citing the sections of the statutes which had not been fully complied with and the decisions of the Supreme Court applicable.

It is not known what further steps will be taken in the matter.  It has stirred up quite bitter feeling in Greenwood and the people are considerably divided on the question of recall.
